Watch out for sleet on high ground this morning.

That’s the advice from the Met Office, which has a yellow weather warning for ’sleet - wet snow’ in place until 9am today (Thursday).

The Met Office forecast:

’Outbreaks of rain at first this morning will become heavy at times and turn increasingly to sleet or snow over higher ground before gradually clearing around mid-morning.

’Thereafter the rest of the day will be mostly dry with sunny spells developing.

’The strong northwest wind may touch gale force in exposed spots at first, before easing slightly and turning to the west or southwest this morning. Top temperature around 7°C.

’Scattered showers will develop this evening, merging into spells of heavy rain at times tonight, as the strong wind turns to the south or southwest and increases to gale force overnight with lows of 6°C.’
