The Met Office has upgraded a weather warning for later tonight to include inner harbour areas.
For Douglas the areas at risk are the Tongue, as well as Lake Road, and Tesco car park where water may come up through the drains.
In Ramsey harbour water is expected to come on to Mezeron Corner and West Quay, with a risk of coming up through the drains in Christian Street.
Flood defences are being deployed in Castletown.
There also continues to be an amber warning in place for coastal overtopping. The wind will veer to the south-southwest and increase this afternoon, becoming strong to gale force by evening, which will create very large waves and bring significant amounts of sea water and debris onto exposed coastal roads and promenades around the time of high tide.
The warnings are valid from 8.30pm until the early hours of Sunday.
Due to today’s strong winds, the Ben-my-Chree did not sail, her next scheduled sailing as at 8.45am on Sunday morning.
