Carers across the island have been coming together for more than a year through a series of weekly Alzheimer’s Society support groups.

The charity’s ‘Better Together’ peer support groups give people caring for someone with dementia the chance to take a break from their caring responsibilities, meet others in a similar position and share experiences.

The groups, which run every week, offer a relaxed space for carers to chat and enjoy some time away from their usual responsibilities.

Alzheimer’s Society dementia advisers are also available at the sessions to provide information, support or simply a listening ear.

The charity has thanked three island venues for helping the groups become an established source of support in their communities.

Better Together sessions are held at Riley’s Garden Centre Café in Braddan and Golfers Rest at Port St Mary Golf Club on Mondays, with a further group at Ramsey Swimming Pool Café on Tuesdays.

All three groups run from 2pm to 3.30pm and are exclusively for carers.

Alzheimer’s Society said the welcoming and accessible venues have played an important role in helping carers connect with one another.

A spokesperson said: ‘Better Together is the carers’ group - a chance to take a break, catch up with others and relax.’

The charity is encouraging anyone caring for someone with dementia who would like to find out more about the groups to get in touch.
