Campaigners who’d hope for a stay of execution for an old people’s home in Peel have conceded that they’ve lost the fight.
Even though the official closure date was July 31, the residents have now left the Corrin Home and the beds put up for sale on social media.
The Save the Corrin Home group accepts that that ’despite their best efforts the trustees cannot be prevented from closing the home’.
A spokesman for the group said: ’Over the last few days the main entrance to the home has been the scene of unparalleled grief with residents, families and carers in tears as they bid farewell among residents’ pleas of "you were so kind to me", "please come and visit me", "you were part of my family and I love you all so much". This without a trustee in sight.’
The group remains critical of the trustees.
’We believe that to continue our fight would divert the attention of the trustees from the charity’s purpose of caring for the elderly of Peel and the west and the government’s obligation to provide residential care facilities in the west,’ the spokesman said.
’We would like to thank the people of Peel and the west for their wonderful support and the staff of the home for the extraordinary care and compassion they have shown for our loved ones.’
