Garff Commissioners want ratepayers’ views on what to do with an ’under-used’ site in the heart of Laxey.

The local authority is considering the future of a stretch of land on Glen Road, opposite the village football club.

Developed in the last decade, the site has a ’multi-sports area’ with a skate-park and basketball facilities, but commissioners chairman Nigel Dobson says it’s not being used to its full potential.

A survey was launched last week to see what the people of Garff - which encompasses Laxey, Lonan and Maughold - would like to see developed there.

Mr Dobson says the consultation will be open, and wouldn’t lead ratepayers in any particular direction, although a number of ideas have already been floated.

These include refurbishing the existing facilities, building a sports hall, a 3G AstroTurf pitch , or relocating the Commissioners’ offices.

Mr Dobson insists any project, no matter the scale, will be affordable and fully costed.
