A new exhibition opened in the east of the island last weekend, featuring a display of wood carving and sculptures.
Woodworker Mark Smyth unveiled his collection of turned wooden bowls and carved creations at the Hodgson Loom Gallery on Saturday, as part of a joint exhibition entitled ’Lover of the Light’, alongside two other artists
Mark produces his work under the name ’MS Wood Art’, and hand crafts his works from locally sourced wood.
He uses beech, sycamore, ash and pieces of burr wood, which has unusual grain and colour properties to bring out the most eye-catching characteristics of the wood.
The exhibition also features kaleidoscopic representations of the Manx countryside by painter Howard Shimmin and a range of stunning mixed media seascapes by painter Claire McMahon.
