Work has started on replacing the Electric Railway sign that overlooks Douglas promenade.
A new sign was originally intended to be installed in spring of this year but the project experienced delays.
The Department of Infrastructure issued an update in August, saying: ’While it was the intention to have a new sign in place by the spring, this wasn’t possible due to the condition of the base being a lot worse than originally anticipated and Covid restrictions delaying exploratory works taking place.’
The sign was originally removed in October 2020 due to safety concerns.
This landmark had been in place on the hill by Douglas bay since 1993 when it was put in to mark the centenary of the Manx Electric Railway.
DoI explained that it was going to be a tricky project, adding that the scaffold needed would be difficult to implement in such an exposed and challenging location.
