Work is underway at the Curraghs Wildlife Park to create an interactive nature trail.

New name plaques marking the two trail entrances have been engraved on Manx-grown larch by local wood carver, Gavin Carter, and are the first components of the trail to be lifted into place.

Over the next few months, the project, which is funded by the Manx Lottery Trust and Zurich International, will take shape in the lead up to the trail opening in June.

Visitors will then be able to find out about the wildlife of the area through activities such as brass rubbing, listening to the solar powered ’talking bench’ and specially designed interactive signage. Young actors recorded a series of fascinating facts about Curraghs wildlife.

The Supporters of the Curraghs Wildlife Park chair, Kim Etherton, said: ’We will now be working hard to instal all the exciting new components on the Curragh Nature Trail.

’They are designed to raise awareness of this unique wetland area but in a fun way. We’re looking forward to the summer when we hope lots of families will enjoy this new addition to the Curraghs Wildlife Park.’

Manx Lottery Trust chairman Sarah Kelly added: ’It was a pleasure to award this grant from the Manx Lottery Trust Island Community Fund in 2020 and we are pleased to see the exciting project get underway.

’It will help to bring this Manx area of importance to life and we are looking forward to experiencing the interactive trail once complete.’
