Sport coaches are set to benefit from a series of workshops in September to help them ’excite, engage and enable’ the island’s sportsmen and women.
The workshops - two of which are new to the island - form the Sport Coaching Festival which takes place on September 7 and 8 at the NSC.
The workshops, all accredited to UK Coaching, will be delivered by experienced UK Coaching tutor Kam Raval who will be making his first visit to the island.
Trevor Christian, coaching co-ordinator with Isle of Man Sport, said: ’Isle of Man Sport is committed to supporting volunteer coaches in their development.
’We want to reduce financial barriers where possible and with this in mind, the whole weekend session is available for just £20.
’This is a great opportunity to mingle with fellow coaches and share ideas on how to use new found knowledge in your coaching.’
The festival will start with ’Coaching Engaging Sessions for Young People’. The biggest drop off in participation figures occurs with young people aged 14 to 25.
The workshop will explore what coaches can do to change this trend.
Saturday morning’s workshop will explore ’Behaviour Change Tactics’. This will focus on influencing behaviour to help people get active and how the use of innovative "nudge" techniques can ensure they stay active.
The final session will enable coaches to get practical and learn ’How to Coach the Fundamentals of Movement’.
This practical-based workshop will help coaches learn how to teach fundamental movement skills in order to develop physical literacy, key to nurturing healthy and active lifestyles.
Bookings can be made online. For more details contact Trevor Christian on 688590 or [email protected]
