During 2018, Year of Our Island worked to celebrate the amazing events, activities, people and places that the Isle of Man has to offer.

Throughout the year we used our social media to speak with people from around the island and encouraged them to share their stories about what makes the Isle of Man special.

Over the last 12 and a half months residents of all ages have been eager to let us know what they love about our island.

From secret events to hidden trails, new initiatives to existing projects, our followers have actively inspired us and other residents to try something new.

We’ve heard from amateur historians, photographers, charity and event organisers and, of course, residents themselves.

That’s why, for the first three months of 2019 we’re continuing this conversation through our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram at our new handle @ourislandim.

Year of Our Island Project Coordinator Nick Hawkes said: ’Social media has proven to be a powerful tool helping to facilitate discussion and foster connections with islanders and visitors alike.

’Last year gave us the opportunity to celebrate the wealth of knowledge that exists about our island.

’With your help we want to continue to inspire residents and visitors to explore more and do more on our island and we believe that @ourislandim is the perfect place for people to share what they love about the Isle of Man.’

Jay, a regular follower of ’Our Island’ on Facebook was pleased to hear that the page will continue, saying that he enjoyed the regular updates, photos and places suggested on his social feed.

’They gave me the push I needed to get out and about more with the family,’ said Jay.

’We’ve been here in the island for 16 years and just forgot how accessible places are.

’We’re looking forward to what we’ll be inspired to try in 2019.’

So, we’re asking you to share your favourite moments from Year of Our Island and tell us what you have planned for the year ahead.

We’ll also be providing updates from our partner events and legacy projects, so be sure to stay tuned to find out more.
