A yellow weather warning has been issued for severe gales across the island.

The weather warning is in place from midday today until 11pm.

The Met office says strong winds will increase to gale force this afternoon, potentially reaching severe gale force in exposed areas later on and into this evening.

The winds are expected to ease overnight.

There is a warning that falling trees and branches could cause disruptions to travel and there is the possibility of minor damage to buildings.
