Horse trams are on the way to Laxey.
The Manx Electric Railway is approaching 125 years of operation.
The tramway, opened September 7, 1893, will host a range of events in September and preparations for the event are already under way.
No.1 of the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway this week became the first horse tram to ever operate away from their traditional home track.
The trial was to ensure the horse tram could operate for an event that will see the three surviving no.1 trams from the island’s rails all appear together in Laxey.
Manx Electric Railway Car 1, Snaefell Mountain Railway Car 1 and Douglas Bay Horse Tramway Car 1 will be together for the first time posing for photographers on Sunday September 2. The MER 125 celebrations will take place between Saturday, September 1, and September 8.
The celebrations will feature a parallel run from Douglas to Groudle Glen using Cars 1 and 2, recognised by Guiness World Records as the oldest tramcars still in use on their original track anywhere in the world.
The 100 year celebrations in 1993 the ’Year of Railways’ saw steam trains operate on the tramline.
