The hunt is on for a new chairperson and trustees for the Manx Museum and National Trust.

The organisation, which trades as Manx National Heritage, was established more than 130 years ago, operates 11 museum sites, two visitor centres, the iMuseum and the national library and archive.

Edmund Southworth, director of Manx National Heritage, said: ’This is a wonderful opportunity to join the organisation that preserves, protects and promotes the unique qualities of our natural and cultural heritage. We are looking for the right people to serve as guardians of Manx culture and identity and the island’s historic and natural landscape.’

He added: ’The Manx Museum and National Trust has made great strides in recent years, creating family-friendly facilities, presenting collections in new ways and providing more resources online to our growing worldwide audience. We are fortunate to have a huge wealth of talent in the Isle of Man and I would encourage people to come forward and use their skills, energy and experience to support the work of the Manx Museum and National Trust.’

People who feel they have the necessary attributes to take up one of these roles should visit www.gov.im/public-appointments for information about the number of vacancies, terms of appointment and full details of the knowledge and skills required. Further information about the work of Manx National Heritage can be found on its website.

The Council of Ministers make the appointments and says that appointees ’must be able to provide an commitment in terms of their time, interest and attention and demonstrate the qualities that underpin public life - selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership’.

It adds that the application process is ’fair, open and transparent, and appointments are made on merit, based on a person’s skills and experience’.

Current trustees of the Manx Museum and National Trust are welcome to apply.
