Two top musical production professionals are to return to the island for a day’s worth of theatre masterclasses.
Director and choreographer Chris Cuming, and associate choreographer Scott Hunter, who both worked on the recent, stunning production of ’Joseph and His Technicolour Dreamcoat’, are to hold two separate workshops aimed at different age ranges on Saturday, November 11.
Matthew James, from Taylorian productions, believes that both workshops, which will focus on all apsects of performing in musicals, such as singing, dancing and acting, will offer vital experience and know-how to those wishing to pursue a stage acting career
’The first workshop, which is aimed at 15 year-olds and older, will look at audition technique required for auditions for shows and how to prepare your material,’ he said.
’It is ideal for those looking to go to drama school, audition for a Taylorian production or to try to get into another local production.’
They will be working with Chris Cuming and Scott Hunter, who is an award nominated actor who trained at Mountview and recently starred in ’Yank’ the Musical at the London Charing Cross Theatre.
’Chris also choreographed ’Yank’, and he regularly works at leading drama schools such as Guildford School of Acting and Royal Central School of Speech and Drama directing and choreographing productions and giving classes, in addition to his work in the industry.’
The second workshop will be for younger actors, aged eight to 14 years old, and will give them the chance to work alongside the two professionals to produce a scene from the famous musicals ’Matilda’ and ’School of Rock’.
’Not only will the children perform these numbers, but also learn how to create them and the skills and work ethic that are required to be in a musical,’ said Matt.
The older workshop begins at 10am, and the course for the younger actors begins at 3.15pm. Both take place at the Ballakermeen Studio Theatre. Email [email protected] to reserve a place on the course.
