Youngsters who look after older people have won prizes as part of Young Carers’ Action Day.

Crossroads Care awarded children who entered a competition for YCAD, with this year’s theme being ’Protect Young Carers’ Futures’.

The charity asked children to dress up as what they aspire to be or do when they’re older.

Crossroads’ Megan Faragher said: ’We had a fantastic response, so we must say a huge thank you to everyone who entered the competition.’

The first prize - a chocolate bouquet and a £20 Waterstone’s voucher - went to brothers Davy and Jacob Cunningham. Davy, who is five years old, would love to be ’Chef Davy’ in his own café, making loads of nice treats.

Megan added: ’Jacob said that he wanted to show us what he wants to be when he’s older and sent us a photo of him in his library at home. [He] really wants to have his own library.’

Second prize went to T Jay Nightingale who wants to be a policeman, and the third prize was won by Annie Flannagan. Both won £15 book vouchers.

Megan said: ’Annie, who is another one of our young carers, wants be like our young carers worker, Billie Hall, when she grows up. Annie made her own Crossroads logo, did her make up, and raided her mum’s wardrobe.’

Crossroads thanked the parents of a young carer for the chocolate bouquet and MMC for donating Waterstones vouchers.

Quilter International has donated £40,000 to the project over the past two years.
