The Isle of Man Young Farmers’ fencing team headed to the Staffordshire showground recently to compete in the 2019 National Competitions Day Finals.

The team, of Ffin Creer, Jack Garrett and Jake McKeown, have been together for a couple of years and made it to the national finals for the first time last year.

This year they qualified after winning at the Northern Area Competition.

According to the competition’s rule book, teams at the final ’will be required to erect a 22m stock proof boundary fence using the materials provided.

’From the start point the fence shall be in a straight line for 12m before turning to the right and continuing for a further 10m.

’It shall be constructed of post and netting with two strands of high tensile steel wire above the netting.’

Team captain, Ffin, said: ’It was judged on skill but had to be done in the time of two hours and 20 minutes.

’We finished on time and got fourth.’

Ffin added that they all thoroughly enjoyed the event and the team hopes to go on competing and reach the finals again next year.
