Following another successful series of concerts, the Isle of Man Young Farmer’s Federation are looking forward to returning next year.

The annual Young Farmers’ shows took place at the Gaiety Theatre two weekends ago and saw three nights of riotous and colourful variety entertainment performed by each of the four branches of the Young Farmers’ to packed audiences on each night.

At the end of the final night, the judges awarded the Marketing Society Cup for the best overall club to the Southern Club for its show ’Seven Brides for Seven Farmers’.

Central came in second place with their Abba-inspired ’Manannan Mia’ and third place went to the performance by Eastern, with a TT-themed show named ’Closer To The Veg’.

Despite being voted in fourth place overall, the Northern team still walked away with the Leodest Memorial Shield for the best dance routine overall.

The Central club were given two of the top awards, with Nicci Cain, chairman of Central, being awarded the Isle of Man Farmers Cup for best individual performer for her lead performance as the Queen, who was taken on a slightly bizarre trip around the island, while the Keith Kerruish Cup for best overall act went to the Barbers Chair act.

Harry Whitehouse, from the Southern Club, was awarded the best young performer.

The concerts all featured many in-jokes aimed towards the farming industry, and there were also plenty of sketches that took aim at local politics and events, with each group featured an escaping Kush the Red Panda.

Chief Minister Howard Quayle was the butt of many jokes and routines, and the Douglas promenade scheme was similarly targeted.

Bryony Kneale, the secretary from the Isle of Man Young Farmers’ Federation, said that both her and chairman Ffinlo Creer were delighted that the concerts were a success.

’I would just like to say a massive thank you and well done to all our members and helpers who made it yet another successful concert,’ said Bryony.

’The whole weekend really was so much fun.

’Standing backstage seeing everyone do their bit and enjoying themselves made all the work worthwhile.

’We also want to say a massive thank you also to everyone that sat in the audience and the wider farming community who came and watched.

’We really appreciate their support, and without them, our amazing sponsors Conister Bank, and all of the Gaiety staff, we wouldn’t be able to put on such an entertaining show.

’We’re counting down to next year already.’
