Potential witches and wizards flocked to Henry Bloom Noble Lbrary to test their magical powers in a Harry Potter-night of adventure and activities.

Teams of young Harry Potter fans took part in the fifth annual official Harry Potter book night, held at the Douglas library on Thursday evening.

The book nights, created by publisher Bloomsbury books, ran under the theme ’Hogwarts’, and saw 24 youngsters enter their names into the Sorting Hat and be split up into the four houses: Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Slytherin and Hufflepuff.

The teams then took part in a series of tests and games, such as searching for lost magical items around the library and creating mnemonics based around the name Hogwarts.

’House points were awarded for each challenge, and the winning team, which turned out, quite fittingly, to be the group representing Gryffindor, was awarded with special Hogwarts house badges.

There were also readings from the first Harry Potter book, the Philosopher’s Stone.

The night was organised by librarian Jan McCartney, who said the kids made sure that the night was full of magic.

’It was a wonderful night, and one that was thoroughly action-packed, and all the young wizards, along with their parents, really made a great atmosphere,’ she said.
