Students have been putting their dancing shoes on to raise money for Hospice Isle of Man.
The event also featured a raffle, a cake sale, competitions to ’guess the name of the teddy bear’ and ’guess the number of sweets in the jar’, as well as many other stalls raising funds for the charity.
The dance school caters for children from 18 months to adults and was only formed 10 weeks ago.
Linzi Brown, who runs the dance school, said: ’We raised £363.33 from our raffle and stalls.
’We have £610 in sponsor money so far from just seven dancers, the rest of the sponsor money is being collected and brought to us over the next week.’
The school had 103 dancers dancing between 9am and 7pm with Oscar, the Hospice bear also joining in the fun.
Linzi continued: ’Manx whippy also came down and donated money to us along with serving their delicious ice cream.
’The sun was shining and the day was an unbelievable success considering Unity Dance School has only been going for 10 weeks.
’Dancers, parents, families and friends all worked hard leading up to, and on the day, and we all had a great time.
’This will now become a yearly event for the dance school.
’Once we have a full total we will be presenting Hospice with the cheque.’
Visitors to Douglas Carnival on Sunday will have a chance to see the dance school in action as they will be performing as part of the event.
Unity Dance School offers a wide range of classes in different dance styles, including cheerleading, freestyle, rock ’*’ roll and hip-hop.
The school is a member of the International Dance Teachers Association.
