Isle of Man Railways is looking for help to stage another ’Island at War’ event.

It is to return to the railway on August 18.

Event co-ordinator Anji Street said: ’We would absolutely love to hear from anyone who wishes to contribute.

’We would be delighted to hear your ideas and support you in any way we can.’

Some local participants confirmed so far this year are the Explorer Scouts, Cadets, Jurby and Andreas Schools, the Royal British Legion, the WI, Chris Williams and the Southern Belles.

The D-Day Darlings are taking part again, but this time with feelgood platform sing-along sessions and an evening concert at the Laxey Working Men’s Institute on Saturday, August 19.

Miss Street added: ’We are very excited to also take the event to RAF Jurby on Friday, August, 18.

’We have been working with a group of local historians and enthusiasts including Charles Guard and Michael Starkey and the Jurby day will highlight the important contributions that the Isle of Man made to war efforts during the Second World War.

’Tours will be conducted around the little known Second World War sites which have lain unknown to the general public for many years.’

Fiona Harrison will perform a concert at the Jurby Church on Friday, August 18.

Tickets for evening concert can be bought via the website www.rail.im or call the Welcome Centre at the Sea Terminal on 662525.
