Peel Youth Club gave its own Manx twist to a Christmas tale as part of its annual festive celebrations.

About 50 people attended its ’Who’s Stealing Christmas’ event with Douglas Central MHK Ann Corlett narrating the story inspired by Dr Seuss’s book ’How the Grinch Stole Christmas’ and the classic Manx tale of Gef the Mongoose.

While the Department of Education, Sport and Culture member read aloud, the Grinch - youth worker Robert Faragher - performed his wickedly deed of stealing everyone’s Christmas presents.

Youth club members acted as various characters, including Gef who befriended the Grinch and was later shocked to discover what he’d done.

The Grinch’s game was up when Gef spotted someone’s Christmas tree sticking out of the youth centre’s chimney on Shore Road.

Once things had been put to right, the Grinch handed out presents at the event.

Val Goldie, a full-time area youth worker, said: ’Everybody had an amazing time and enjoyed themselves at what was a family event. The bingo and raffle had very good prizes and the Grinch story was well received.

’We would like to thank Ann Corlett for reading the story and everyone who helped and took part in the event.’

The youth centre is open from 6pm on Monday and Tuesday for those aged Year 5 (ages nine and 10) and upwards, Wednesday for younger children and Friday for mixed ages. For more details, go to www.iomyouth.im/
