The annual Under-15s badminton tournament, sponsored by Kirby Estates, took place at the National Sports Centre over the weekend.

In the girls’ singles, the four semi-finalists were Annelise Mellor, Jessica Thornton, Sofie Thornton and Katie Evans.

Annelise beat Sofie 21/3 21/14 and Jessica beat Katie 21/12 21/5.

The final was close, but not reflected in the scores, with Annelise winning 21/8 21/6.

The plate event was won by Laura Garrity.

The semi-finalists in the boys’ singles were Martin O’Malley, Juan Domingo, Martin Cheung and Lucas Collier.

Both semi-finals were close with Juan defeating Lucas 18/21 21/9 21/12, and Martin O’Malley beating Martin Cheung 21/10 21/18.

The final was a long battle with Juan narrowly getting the better of Martin 15/21 21/18 21/17.

The plate event was won by Praveen Balakrishnan.

The girls’ doubles final saw Kelly Domingo and Annelise Mellor take on Sofie and Jessica Thornton in a very close contest eventually won 21/19 21/17 by Kelly and Annelise.

The plate event was won by Maia Xaio and Tali Lenin.

The boys doubles final was won by Juan and Martin Cheung who defeated Lucas and Praveen 21/15 21/9.

The plate event was won by Tommy Cheng and Samuel Corkill.

The mixed doubles semi-finalists were Lucas and Annelise, Praveen and Laura, Tommy and Kelly, Martin Cheung and Jessica.

Lucas/Annelise defeated Praveen/Laura 21/4 21/6; and Martin/Jessica defeated Tommy/Kelly 21/11 21/9.

The final went to three, with Martin and Jessica edging it 21/15 11/21 21/18.

The plate event was won by Juan Domingo and Sofie Thornton.
