Team RL360 cyclist Amelia Sharpe is on her way to Gyor in Hungary to represent Great Britain at the 2017 European Youth Olympic Festival.
Around 3,000 athletes from 50 European nations will compete in 10 Olympic sports at the Festival which runs from July 23-29.
The Team GB athletes, who are all aged between 14 and 16, will compete in six of those sports: cycling, gymnastics, swimming, tennis, judo and canoeing.
The event provides crucial multi-sport event experience for young athletes, with more than 50 festival graduates going on to compete at the Beijing, London and Rio Olympic Games.
The likes of Peter Kennaugh and Rebecca Adlington had their first taste of an Olympic-style event at the European Youth Olympic Festival before winning an Olympic medal at senior level.
On her selection for the European Youth Olympic Festival, Amelia said:
’There’s nothing better than being able to ride for your country and being selected is a real privilege.
’The European Youth Olympic Festival is one of the top races at this age category so it will be good to test myself against some of the best from Europe.
’Racing will be a challenge but I’m looking forward to that and I know it will stand me in good stead for future events.’
The Manx girl’s cycling team-mates at the Festival are Ella Barnwell, Elynor Backstedt, Alfie George, Lewis Askey and recently-crowned British National champion Sam Watson.
