A total line-up of 44 competitors turned out for Isle of Man Veteran Athletes’ Club’s Autumn Handicap 10km run and 5km walk last Thursday evening.
The line-up on the perimeter roadway of the National Sports Centre consisted of 27 runners and 17 walkers respectively.
First event of the night was the 5km walk, which was won by Iris Neil from Renee Michalogiannis and veteran campaigner Charlie Quirk.
Recent End to End women’s race winner Lorna Gleave was the fastest outright walker on the night in 30min 17sec.
The 10km run contained a strong line-up including David Bignell, Nhlanhla Nzama, Ian Goatman and Matt Callister.
With some interesting battles going on, in particular between Bignell and Nzama, it was Daniel Pownall who took the honours on handicap with Terry Bates and Kathy Lane finishing second and third respectively.
Bignell achieved the fastest time of the night in an excellent 34m 47s.
l IoM Veteran Athletes’ Club wish to thank all of the volunteers who organised and took part on the night, as well as the staff at the NSC.
