The final round of the Callin Wild Fell Running League takes place this Saturday with the re-introduction of the eagerly-anticipated Axnfell race.
This is to be dedicated to the memory of Matt McSevney, who was Manx Fell Runners club treasurer at the time of his tragic death this time last year.
He would have relished the opportunity to tackle this long and arduous fell race, last held 21 years ago and considered by many to be the hardest in the island. All entry fees will be donated to CruzKids, part of Cruse Bereavement Care IoM, which has provided support to Matt’s family (http://www.cruseisleofman.org/)
In recognition of the difficulty of this race, and to make it more inclusive for those who may not have had the opportunity to put in the necessary training, a ’Short Ax’ race is to be organised in conjunction. This ’AS’ category event will start alongside the long race, but take a shorter 10km route to the Bungalow and back.
Start time will also be 8am from the same location. Minimum age is 16 on the day of the race. Note that this shorter race does not count toward the Callin Wild Manx Fell Running league.
Online pre-entry and full race info is available at manxfellrunners.org
