Bacchas A haven’t been in serious contention for the Rossborough Women’s Premier League title for a few years now.

But they always seem to have a big say in the destination of the title, doing precisely that last weekend when taking a point out of Valkyrs A.

This result gives Bacchas hope that they can compete for the title next year but more importantly Valkyrs must now beat Vikings twice to win the current league.

In the meantime, Vikings overcame a defensive performance that kept the All Blacks at bay for large parts of the game and showed everyone how to defend penalty corners effectively.

Elsewhere, Valkyrs B defeated an improved Saracens A and Ramsey A beat Harlequins.

Apart from the big game of the day between Bacchas A and Vikings A in Rossborough Men’s Premier League (report far right), there were a few other interesting fixtures.

Ramsey A finally showed their true form by defeating a difficult Saracens A side.

The latter side don’t appear capable of doing their first team a favour right now, after succumbing to Valkyrs A, with Ollie Webster proving a thorn in the side of Vikings and taking home the man of the match plaudits.

Other results mean that Valkyrs go into second place and currently sit three points behind Bacchas A.

Finally, Bacchas B defeated a struggling Harlequins side.

In Rossborough Women’s Division One, Valkyrs C looked to close the gap at the top of the table by overcoming Bacchas B again.

Bacchanallians were at full strength and showed why they are challenging for promotion with a dominant victory over the westerners.

Vikings B remained top of the table with a well-earned victory over a finely-drilled Castletown B.

The destination of the title seems likely to come down to the games between Bacchas B and Vikings B, with the next match key.

Elsewhere, Bacchas C defeated Ramsey B to close the gap to Vikings C in fifth place to one point.

A big inter-club derby took place between Castletown B and Castletown A in Men’s Division One, a contest that could potentially have thrown up a surprise result.

In reality, the experience of the first string in front of goal proved decisive, taking the victory seven goals to one.

Elsewhere, Vikings C earned a top-four place before the league splits courtesy of a draw with Bacchas Colts.

Although Vikings had the better attacking opportunities, the experience of Bacchas Colts core proved decisive, with Peter Vernon-Brown mopping up at the back and Andrew Kneale proving destructive in the middle of the park.

Added to that came some utterly brilliant performances from man of the match Lucas Harding with some key interceptions, excellent marking and positional sense to prove Colts are working hard to bring on the club’s youngsters.

Ramsey B earned their first win of the season against Saracens B, while a strong Harlequins B side demolished Bacchas C with Joe Middleton taking home the plaudits with no fewer than seven goals.
