Bacchas and Vikings go head-to-head in the Rossborough Men’s Premier League this weekend, writes Sam Spooner.
Both sides will be desperate to win, with Bacchas currently sitting top of the table two points clear of the chasing pack which is led by Vikings.
Each team has been fairly free-scoring this season but a disappointing result against Valkyrs has seen Vikings fall behind.
If the latter can win it closes the contest up again, but if Bacchas triumph then they will have an almost unassailable lead against one of their fiercest rivals.
Elsewhere in the division, Valkyrs A will hope to take advantage of the result between the top two when they take on Vikings B. There is also a bottom-of-the-table clash between Saracens and Harlequins A, while Ramsey A will be aiming to continue their fight for a top-four finish when they play Bacchas B.
Rossborough Women’s Premier League also has a first versus second game on the cards with Vikings A taking on Castletown A. Both sides have scored fairly freely this season by netting 27 and 25 goals respectively.
It is not inconceivable that Castletown A may surprise a few people and a few pundits have already been embarrassed by the southerners this year.
Elsewhere, a close battle is on the cards when Valkyrs A take on Bacchas A. The latter are desperate to consolidate their top-four position and confirm to everyone that they can mix it with the best, while Valkyrs will be keen to continue their chase of Vikings at the top of the league.
There is a bottom-of-the-table clash between Saracens and Harlequins, while Valkyrs B take on Ramsey A with the latter looking to kick start their season after a faltering first few weeks.
Rossborough Men’s Division One sees Vikings C take on Castletown B, with the southerners looking to do their A team a favour and take points of one of their title rivals.
Castletown A will go into their fixture against Ramsey B full of confidence with their star striker Paul Kelly on form, while Valkyrs B take on Bacchas C with the westerners favourites to continue their winning streak.
The final game of the day sees Saracens B take on Harlequins B which is a sixth versus seventh battle with both sides level on points.
In Rossborough Women’s Division One, league leaders Bacchas B have the week off meaning the chasing pack have a great chance to put pressure on them.
Valkyrs C are the first side to try and join the leaders on six points when they face Bacchas C who may well be strengthened by a number of under-18 players being available this week. Therefore, Valkyrs will need to be on top form to take both points on offer.
Castletown B take on Vikings C in a game that sees the southerners as favourites and hoping they can continue their quietly impressive rise to the top of the table and go level on points with Bacchas B. Vikings B will be hoping to overcome bottom side Ramsey B and regain top spot.
