A huge number of almost 400 riders took part in the VeloUK British Hill Climb cycling championships recently.
The event took place at Streatley, on the River Thames in Berkshire, and Manx woman Becky Storrie finished joint third in the women’s event involving a strong field of 93.
Bithja Jones (Pankhurst Cycles) won in 2min 47.9sec from Mary Wilkinson (Yorkshire RC) 2:50.8. Storrie (riding for Synergy Cycles) was the leading Espoir (u23) in 2:58.8 with senior rider Monica Greenwood (Macclesfield Wheelers).
The Castle Rushen old girl, who has since studied at Stirling University, showed her climbing ability when winning the women’s time trial at the 2019 Island Games on the Rock of Gibraltar ascent.
l Sam Brand (Team Novo Nordisk) was 59th in the 213km Paris - Tours ElitePro one-day road race recently.
