Crown green bowling could be one of the first sporting activities to get back into action locally as restrictions gradually slacken.
But men’s press officer Glynn Hargraves doubts there will be any league competitions this season.
Isle of Man Crown Green Bowling Association chairman Neil Withers has reached out to Isle of Man Sport with proposals and is awaiting confirmation from Government to see when they can go ahead.
In short, the association is looking to let people back on the greens - one person or one household at a time - using their own equipment, provided government is in approval. At this point in time there are no imminent plans for league/team competitions.
When rules are relaxed on social distancing, then the interim measures above would be reviewed.
Understandably, the media officer admits it would probably be difficult to schedule team events into the calendar, therefore the association would look to hold open competitions depending on what stage of the season it is.
The June Bowls Festival has definitely been cancelled and no decision has been made on the September festival as yet, but if borders remain closed this is also unlikely to go ahead.
l The sport lost a good friend and loyal servant late last week with the sad death of Ladies’ Bowls Association committee member and vice-president Heather Horsburgh.
This week’s IoM Courier will carry a tribute to the former results and press officer, a valued and respected member of Peel Sunset Bowling Club.
