Manx Taekwondo enjoyed a successful weekend at the As Strong As Steel Championships in Sheffield recently.

The focus was on some of the club’s younger students aged between six and 10 years old who were competing at the event. While only a short trip, there was plenty of time for all to enjoy themselves.

The older black belts found themselves in new territory as they stepped up to become mentors and worked hard to support and coach the rest of the team. It therefore proved to be a weekend of firsts for many involved.

The competition tested both disciplines of taekwondo through Kyorugi (sparring) and Poomsae (patterns) where the Isle of Man team excelled and were rewarded with a team bronze overall out of 33 clubs. This was fantastic result for the club given the size of the squad attending and one which really does reflect the dedication from all athletes involved.

Manx Taekwondo promotes mutual respect, support and teamwork. The weekend embraced all of these qualities and will be an experience that all students will remember for some time to come.

The club welcomes new members - both adults and children. Contact Master Rod Nielsen on 436181 or email [email protected]
