There’s three top versus bottom fixtures in the PwC Mixed Premier League on Saturday, all of which offer the enticing possibility of a surprise result.
Bacchas A, who are yet to drop a point this season, are a point clear at the top following a draw between Vikings and Valkyrs last week.
The Whites will not be expecting to drop points this week against Ramsey.
The northerners, however, have performed strongly this season, pushing Vikings close in the first game of the season and taking a convincing victory against Bacchas’ own second string last week.
It will be interesting to see if Ramsey can steal goals and provide a bit of competition for the league leaders.
Bacchas B have a track record of being Valkyrs’ bogey team and this clash possibly presents the strongest chance of a surprise, although a Valkyrs team complete with their entire strike force should win on the day.
Harlequins, meanwhile, scared Valkyrs for the first 60 minutes of their recent clash, and will look to add 10 minutes to their performance this week against Vikings - Peter Foxton at the back is likely to provide additional strength to Harlequins for the weekend.
Division One currently could go in any direction with every team scoring points, but no team managing to open the season with two wins.
Valkyrs B will hope to return to winning ways against Cammags, while Castletown’s other team Celts will expect to have the edge over Saracens.
Vikings B should have enough strength to overcome Valkyrs C.
In Division Two, a club derby should allow Ramsey Ravens to remain the league’s sole team with a 100 per cent record, with Vikings C likely to maintain the chase if they can beat Valkyrs D.
Valkyrs C scored six last week, but will be expecting a tight game against Bacchas Colts, possibly settled by fitness.
Harlequins Colts and Vikings Colts is the pick of the day in Division Three - both club development teams vying for the right to chase Saracens for the title.
Harlequins possibly have a slightly stronger all-round squad but Vikings have an strikeforce who can score for fun.
Elsewhere, at least one of Southerners and Bacchas D will score their first points of the season.
Valkyrs have led the way at under-16s’ level so far, and beating Harlequins this week will effectively make Vikings their main challengers for the title.
