Charlotte Atkinson stormed into the women’s 100m butterfly final at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.
The Isle of Man swimmer set a new island senior long course record to clinch her place in today (Friday’s) final at the spectacular 10,000-seater outdoor pool.
The Loughborough University student was second in her heat of the 100m fly in 58.97s to book her place in the semi-finals which took place yesterday lunchtime (UK time).
Competing in the second of the semis, Atkinson looked comfortable throughout and finishing strongly to finish third in her heat in a new island record time of 58.04s, eclipsing her previous best of 58.18s set earlier this year.
In doing so, she qualified fourth fastest overall for Friday’s final and on the brink of a possible Commonwealth Games medal.
