There was another action-packed weekend at Ballacooiley recently when Triskelion Polo Club hosted the Shore Gansey Plate tournament.
As a result of the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Covid, there were only two teams - Foraging Vintners and Claremont - competing over the weekend, with four chukkas being played on each day.
As the island continued to bask in the glorious sunshine, the first day saw FV win the opening chukka. The following two chukkas were tied 1-1 and 2-2 before Claremont won the final chukka 2-0, meaning the hotel side finished the day 5-4 ahead.
The following day was just as exciting: the first chukka was tied, before FV won the next chukka 1-0 and the third was tied 2-2, meaning the score was 8-8.
Therefore, it was all to play for in the final chukka and in the end Claremont came out on top winning 3-0 to seal the Gansey Plate overall 11-8.
After the action concluded, speeches and prizes were given to the two competing teams.
Three more tournaments are scheduled at Ballacooiley: the Houston Sword tomorrow (Saturday); the CPS Trophy on August 28-29; and the Family Heroes Trophy on September 11/12.
l Apologies for the error in the Triskelion Polo Club article in the July 16 edition of the Courier - the club have their playing fields at Ballacooiley in Ballaugh and not Ballacorey.
