Athlete Joe Reid has been called into the Isle of Man team for the forthcoming Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.
Isle of Man Commonwealth Games Association announced on Friday that it had been awarded an additional space in addition to the 32-strong team announced earlier this month.
The extra place was granted after other countries failed to take up their full quota of athletes.
Reid will represent the Isle of Man on the track in the men’s 800 metre event.
The team flies to Australia from March 19, followed by a week of acclimatisation in the Sunshine Coast, before moving to the athletes’ village in Gold Coast.
Isle of Man Commonwealth Games president Basil Bielich said: ’We originally applied for additional spaces in September last year and we are thrilled to be able to add Joe to the team.
’He was one of the unlucky athletes who met the qualifying criteria but missed on initial selection for the team.’
Chef de Mission Leonie Cooil, added: ’The award of an additional space allowed us to restructure and allocate the place to Joe, who missed out on initial selection by a small margin. He will strengthen our team even farther.’
Auxesia, Escape the Rock, Manx Telecom, Paysafe, Skanco and SMP Partners, have supported the IoM Commonwealth Games association with the costs in getting the team to the Games.
