Erika Kelly produced a brave performance to claim a fine top-10 finish in the women’s 20km race walk at the Commonwealth Games on Sunday.

The talented Manx athlete survived the searing temperatures on Australia’s Gold Coast to claim ninth place in a high-quality field.

The home nation’s Jemima Montag stormed to victory, finishing nearly a minute and half in front of New Zealand’s Alana Barber while Wales’ Bethany Davies claimed third.

Despite lying 13th at one point, Kelly finished strongly and defied the testing conditions to cross the line proudly wearing a Manx flag in ninth place.
