Jordan Corkill of Douglas has secured the All-Terrain Rally Championship at the first serious attempt after winning four of the six rounds.
He was runner-up in two others, one in Wales where it is thought that a ’rogue’ time by another rider cost him the win, and again here in the Isle of Man round in late September when David Knight took the honours in a one-off ride.
The final round was back in Wales three weeks ago where 20-year-old Corkill took the honours in the Hafren event on his 450 KTM by 1min 16sec from experienced off-roader Steve Ireland.
Overall 2018 series winner Dave Leach finished 13th at Hafren on his 480 Beta, with Matthew Gell a solid 26th on his 350 KTM out of a total field of almost 150 finishers. He was one solitary second ahead of his step father Tony Marshall!
The weather was good for the event, with enjoyable, fast-flowing tests and a large total entry of 200. Each lap involved an approximate distance of 45 miles, with three tests per lap (all the same test).
The route was based round the Sweet Lamb complex near Llangurig, as used in Rally Wales GB. There was no road work.
Corkill won the series with a total of 100 points, followed by Lee Green 89, Henry Righton 70 and Andy Hayes 65.
Former TT winner Leach finished fifth, having missed the Circuit of Mann round in the island as he was the leading official.
off to the states
Series winner Corkill, who plays first team football for Rushen United, is an apprentice engineer at Isle of Man Creamery.
He is heading to California with his grandfather very shortly, at the invite of his main sponsor Cupertino Electrical, the owner of which is a family friend and regularly visits the island for the TT.
When over in the States, he is to ride the prologue for the famous Baja Desert Rally on a 500 KTM arranged via by Cupertino.
Jordan Corkill wishes to thank his local sponsors for all of the support he has received this year, namely Phoenix Windows, Yesss Electrical of Eden Park, Road & Track Motorcycles, along with G-Tech Suspension (Nick Ward).
