The Isle of Man national women's cricket team narrowly missed out on silverware in Romania over the weekend.

The 13-strong squad competed in the Continental Cup at the Moara Vlasiei Cricket Ground near the capital Bucharest, going up against seven other nations in the T20 competition.

Drawn in group B alongside Norway, Romania and Greece, the Manx side enjoyed an excellent tournament, defeating the hosts by three wickets on the opening day.

They then comprehensively got the better of Greece in their second match, winning by nine wickets, before defeating Norway in their last group match by 27 runs, helped by a huge 123 not out by Lucy Barnett.

That helped set up a showdown with Turkey in the final where Barnett continued her impressive form, hitting 59 from 34 balls to help the Isle of Man set a target of 117 for 8.

In reply, Turkey kept chipping away and, despite Jo Hicks and Barnett taking two wickets apiece plus Grace Cottier also claim one, it was their opponents who reached 118 for 5 after 15 overs to claim the trophy.

But Barnett was rewarded for her performances by winning the MVP award after scoring an outstanding 257 runs at an average of 128 and a strike rate of 178, along with four wickets with an economy of 3.8.

All of the matches were live streamed on the ‘European Cricket Network’ YouTube channel.
