This weekend is a chance for clubs to catch up on Premiership games they were unable to fit in earlier in the season.

Shimmin Wilson Peel and St John’s (PSJ) are at home to Ramsey Crookall Finch Hill on Saturday.

The result of this match will hinge upon which set of batsmen end up in the ascendancy.

Ollie Webster is the PSJ batsman in form, but Pete Lewis has put a few runs together recently.

He scored 80 against Valkyres in a mid-week game last week so he will present a threat.

The Finches have several batsmen who can change a game. George Burrows scores quickly at the outset and then settles down to score in a regulated fashion.

Eddie Beard is now released from the attentions of exams and so we can expect more fireworks from him, while Sam Barnett has been batting consistently and he notched his first 50 last weekend.

Hannan Law Crosby welcome CTH Insurance Ramsey to the Memorial Playing Fields on Saturday.

Both have had a bit of a rough time this season, so a victory will be welcome for either side.

I have heard that some of the Crosby players are carrying injuries, so it may be a very changed side that don the whites.

Ramsey have also had to change their team on occasion, and they will hope that they can retain the top-order batsmen, who put together a good knock against Finch Hill.

Last weekend, the latest of the Ward dynasty to grace senior cricket, Tom, demonstrated that he will soon be a batsman of note.

He supported his captain in good fashion while Matthew Ansell demolished the Valkyres bowlers.

The Crosby bowlers, such as Dave Picken and Chris Langford, have been bowling well recently and they will provide some strike capability.

Ramsey, however, lack a bowler around which the rest of the team can build their performance.

Tom Moffatt bowled well in the Blincoe, so maybe he iscoming back into form.

Finch Hill are starting to get some use out of their new pitch at Ballafletcher.

This Sunday, they take on Baker Tilly Isle of Man Cronkbourne.

We have discussed the capabilities of Finch Hill’s batsmen, but their bowlers will have to play well to stem the big-hitting Cronkbourne players. Nathan Knights and Matthew Ansell are both big hitters, but Jack Gerrard and Corbin Liebenberg are also both in good form.

However, the Finches’ left-arm bowling brothers, Joe and Tom Burrows, can cause some problems to any batsmen.

Newfield Castletown will be the second weekend opponents for Crosby on Sunday at King William’s College.

Town’s Tom Kennaugh has batted well to date, while if Dan Laughlin can get a start he can put together a good innings. Consistency, however, is key for the southerners.

Their batting line-up can collapse at times, which spoils the hard work done earlier on.

They have some good left-arm bowlers, but their best bowler is arguably youngster Nathan Williams who bowls with a good variety of flight and spin.

l This weekend’s softball festival for women and girls takes place at Finch Hill’s Ballafletcher ground on Saturday. Start time is 2pm.

It is all about having fun and a laugh together. The soft ball means that you don’t need gloves or pads. I watched some of the last week’s matches and there are some players who will soon be excellent cricketers. If you want to find out more information, please email Sally Green at [email protected]
