Manx cyclist Jake Kelly has suffered a broken leg following a late crash in the International Rhodes Grand Prix on Sunday.
On a weekend in which no fewer than 14 of the island’s cyclists were in action around the world, Kelly and fellow Manxie Nathan Draper rode for Team Wiggins in the inaugural edition of the race over 195 kilometres in the Greek island.
The 22-year-old, in his second year with Bradley Wiggins’ team, was lying in third place when he was sent tumbling with only 150m to go in the race.
As a result the young Manxman broke his leg reportedly just below the knee and has since undergone surgery.
Draper, 19, finished 69th out of 133 finishers just over a minute behind the winner.
Lizzie Holden made her world tour debut when riding for Drops Cycling in the prestigious Strade Bianche Race in France, claiming 77th place.
Sam Brand had a fine ride in the Vuelta Independencia Nacional Republica Dominicana, the Team Novo Nordisk rider finishing the eight-stage race as the highest-placed Briton in 24th overall.
Ben Swift, riding for UAE-Team Emirates, was 15th during the second stage of the Paris Nice, while Mark Christian unfortunately did not finish the Dwars door West-Vlaanderen Johan Museeuw Classic in Belgium.
* Manxies were also in action at the Eddie Soens Memorial - full story in this week’s Manx Independent.
