Former Isle of Man Sportsman of the Year, Peter Kennaugh MBE, is taking an indefinite break from professional cycling because of ongoing mental health issues.

The ex-British champion and Olympic gold medallist has not raced in anger this season.

The BORA - hansgrohe team has confirmed its support for the 29-year-old Manxman’s decision and has agreed that this is the best course of action to ensure he can return to full health in the near future.

'I would like to thank everyone at BORA - Hansgrohe for their support and understanding to allow me to recover away from the sport,’ said Peter last week. ‘I wish the team the best of luck for the rest of the season.’

Team manager Ralph Denk, commented: ‘We thank Peter for his contribution to the team and wish him well in his recovery process. We look forward to him making a full return to professional cycling in the future.’
