The League International (TLI) National Road Cycling Championships take place in the island this weekend, hosted by Manx Viking Wheelers.

A total of around 150 riders have entered the two-day event (including a number of locals), commencing Saturday morning with a time trial on open roads over a distance of 8.29 miles in the St Mark’s/Braaid area.

This is for standard road bikes only, no time trial bikes, tri-bars or disc wheels permitted. Registration will be from 8am at St Mark's village hall. Riders must sign on at least 45 minutes before their start time.

The road race events are later the same day on closed roads over multiple laps of the shortened Stuggadhoo course (4.57 miles) from 12.45pm. Roads closed 12.30 to 4.30, same race HQ.

The first race will be over 11 laps (81km), approximately 90 minutes plus one lap (seniors/masters A-C) starting 12.45pm.

Race two is 10 laps (73.6km) from 2.45 for youths, juniors and masters D-G. Both races start and finish near to St Marks crossroads.

The championships will conclude on Sunday with the criterium races over a fast and technical 1.1km anti-clockwise course in central Douglas (Athol Street/Lord Street/North Quay area).

A familiarisation/free practice session will take place from 8.30am for all riders, with the first race at 9 for masters E-G (40 minutes plus three laps). At 9.45am it will be the C-D race (again 40min + 3 laps); 10.40am youth A and masters A-B (40m + 3 laps); 11.35am senior and junior (40m + 3 laps).

Roads closed 8am until no later than 1pm. Race control at Manx Legion Club.

The pre-event sign-on for riders and officials is on Friday between 5 and 7.30pm at Cycle 360, Cooil Business Park.
