Former Manx ABC captain Danny Roberts is set to make his highly-anticpated professional debut on Saturday evening in Liverpool.
The 27-year-old, who signed for the VIP Promotions stable in November, is on the undercard for Scouser Tom Farrell’s first bout back since losing his WBA International super-lightweight title fight with Ohara Davies in September. Roberts is one of 12 fighters in action, kicking off the evening’s action in the Echo Arena’s Auditorium with a light-middleweight encounter against a yet to be confirmed opponent.
Speaking this week Danny’s dad Pete, who will form part of his coaching team with former pros Ian Harrison and Tommy Battel said: ’He’s well up for it.
We’ve been tapering training this week, concentrating on a roadwork and a but of techinical stuff in the gym.
’He’s had some really hard sparring in recent weeks and is looking sharp.’
It is sure to feel like a home encounter for the Manxman with approximately 150 local boxing fans buying tickets for the night which gets under way at 7.15pm. A small amount of tickets will be available on the door from 6.30pm.
