Manx Taekwondo’s Nino Ontoy represented Britain in the Poomsae International Open TKDSAC 2017 at the Peace and Friendship Pavilion in Loures, Portugal last weekend.
The competition was recognised by the Portuguese Taekwondo Federation ranking for dans and involved more than 550 individuals and 43 teams from Portugal, Germany, Austria, Denmark, Spain, Holland, England, Northern Ireland, Norway, Switzerland and Sweden.
Also in attendance were 30 national and international referees.
Nino competed in three categories: dan under-14 cadet individuals, dan u14 pairs and dan u14 team.
In the u14 cadet individuals, Nino once again showed his dominance on the court in each stage of the competition, going all the way and managing to edge his closest rival by almost 0.25 of a point in the finals to claim the gold medal.
Nino had a new partner, Natasha Wilson from Central Taekwondo, for the competition. They only had five practice sessions together before the event but, despite that, they were able to work together well and grab the gold.
Unfortunately, in the team event, one team-mate fell short on his performance but they still managed to claim a silver medal.
Overall Team GB clinched five golds, nine silvers and 15 bronzes, with Nino contributing two out of those five golds.â??
Chairman of British Taekwondo in the Isle of Man, Master Rod Nielsen, would like to thank Dom Ontoy and Nino Ontoy for their hard work and dedication.
