In Manx hockey’s Premier League this weekend the traditional grudge match, ’El Clasico’ between Valkyrs and Bacchas takes centre stage.
Defending champions Bacchas have been looking dangerous again this season, scoring no fewer than 25 goals in their opening three games.
But Valkyrs were the only team last season who took a point away from Bacchas’ 100 per cent record when they held them to a draw.
Vikings A take on a struggling Bacchas B side who are still looking to record their first win this season, with Vikings A having not lost a game yet. Vikings will go into the fixture looking to be the favourites, but complacency could cause an upset.
The final game sees Ramsey against Harlequins. Since being promoted last season, Ramsey have really shown that they belong in the Premier League recording a strong win over Bacchas B and pushing potential title contenders Vikings to a one-goal deficit.
Harlequins are also yet to record a win this season so will need to prove a point in this game.
Over in Division One a tight game is in store when Vikings B play Valkyrs B. Vikings B look dangerous up front and have clocked some high-scoring wins this season.
The impressive Castletown Cammags host a struggling Saracens Sabres side in a southern derby.
Cammags will be buoyed by their impressive 1-0 win over Valkyrs B and their draw against their own first team.
Elsewhere in Division One, top-of-the-table Castletown Celts play a young and strong Bacchas C side. The latter have had an array of decent results already this season and will be seeking safety from relegation.
Over in Division Two, bottom-of-the-table Valkyrs D will struggle against leaders Ramsey Rookies, while another grudge match between Vikings C and Valkyrs C takes place with Vikings hot on Ramsey’s heels in second place.
A young and skilful Bacchas Colts take on the ever-improving Ramsey Rookies which could be a close affair.
Division Three hosts what promise to be several close games in two inter-club matches. Saracens Sharks face Saracens Colts in what will be an entertaining affair, with both sides showcasing a lot of young talent.
Harlequins Colts also take on their B team and anything could happen in this game as both sides are neck-in-neck in the table.
Elsewhere in the league top-of-the-table Vikings Colts take on bottom side Castletown Southerners hoping to make it four wins out of four.
