Peter Kennaugh is due to return to training next week after an enforced break from racing.

In a statement released by his BORA-hansgrohe team, it was revealed that the Manxman was sidelined because of health reasons but that they will support him throughout his recovery.

The statement said: ‘Due to personal health reasons, BORA–hansgrohe’s Peter Kennaugh had to take some time off the bike after the Tour Down Under in January.

‘Next week he will start training again to prepare himself for the second part of the season. His return to racing is not decided yet, but the team fully supports Peter in his preparations.

‘After a first 6-8 week training period, the performance team and coaches will decide together with him which race will be appropriate for Peter to re-start his season.

‘We kindly ask you to respect the riders’ privacy. The team will not make any further comments at this stage.’
