Andrew Farrell was celebrating for the second time this week as he claimed victory in Friday’s dramatic Lightweight Manx Grand Prix.

The Skerries man won Wednesday’s first Lightweight contest before securing a second victory on on his Kawasaki ER-6.

For three quarters of the four-lap race it looked like that Farrell would have to settle for second after James Chawke set a blistering early pace that saw him set a new class lap record of 114.993mph (19:41.182) on his second lap.

Wednesday’s Junior MGP winner Chawke though was forced to retire his Paton 650 at Ballagarey on the last lap handing the lead to Farrell.

He would eventually win on corrected time by 6.337 seconds from the hard-charging Gary Vines.

Vines was 30s ahead of Dave Butler who improved on his fourth position in Wednesday’s race by finishing third.

Butler’s fellow Irishman David Lumsden was fourth ahead of Newcomers B race winner Michael Rees in fifth. Brad Vicars completed the top six.

Manxman David Quine was eighth despite being hit by a 30-second pit lane speeding penalty.

Peel’s Ali Foster was 20th just ahead of St John’s Brian Appleton in 21st.

Farrell was delighted to win after over-shooting his team during the pit stops at the end of lap two.

He added: ’I lost a load of time at the start when I got stuck behind Victor Lopez-Santos who was having trouble with is bike at the bottom of Bray Hill.

’I just kept plugging away and tied to be as smooth as I could.

’I’m delighted. Massive thanks to all my sponsors.’
