Changing rooms at Pulrose were closed today.

It follows an inspection which has highlighted structural problems with the building.

As a result, fencing has placed around the facility to prevent public access.

The Combination Two football fixture between Pulrose United and Foxdale scheduled for Saturday afternoon has been postponed.

Douglas Council, which owns the ground and changing rooms, made the decision after it emerged bowing in the gable wall had worsened, while there was also evidence of rainwater ingress into the light fittings.

The damage was spotted during a visit to Pulrose Pavilion to take photographs as part of an application to the UK charity, the Football Foundation.

It was announced earlier this year that the local authority, in conjunction with the club, is seeking up to £250,000 to help meet the total cost for replacement facilities.

A council spokesman said: ‘What has been confirmed as serious structural issues means we have had no option but to condemn and close the building with immediate effect. We immediately informed Pulrose United and the Isle of Man Football Association and are assisting them to retrieve kit and equipment from the building.

‘As a council we have strived for some time to work with football clubs to make improvements where necessary and will continue to do so.’
