The 19th Nedbank-sponsored Women’s Floodlit Cup final will yet again be a Ballafletcher affair after Douglas Royal and Corinthians secured 4-2 and 4-0 victories over Colby and Peel respectively on Sunday.

In the first semi-final Colby, appearing for the first time in the last four of this competition, took a ninth-minute lead trough Caitlin Smith.

However, former Colby player Claire Hawley-Scott equalised for Royal before strikes from Holly Stephen and Donna Shimmin gave the Whites a 3-1 lead before half-time.

On resumption, Amy Speed pulled a goal back for the southerners, but a Rebecca Cole goal on 50 minutes ensured the Ballafletcher side’s passage for a record 14th final in this competition.

There was a minute’s silence before the match in memory of Louise Beech which saw the Colby players wear black armbands.

In the second semi-final, the Floodlit Cup still remains elusive for Peel after Corinthians took an early lead through Jade Burden.

After the break, Hattie Castle made it 2-0 with Burden netting a third and Lauren Christian getting her name on the scoresheet.

It will be the eighth time Royal and Corinthians have competed in the final of this competition, with the former being the most successful having won it a record seven times while their Ballafletcher neighbours have won it on five occasions.

The final will take place at the Bowl this Sunday, January 28 - kick-off is at 2.45pm.
