Several JCK Division Two sides will be aiming to spring a surprise this weekend when the ECAP FA Cup returns to action on Saturday.

Arguably, Colby have the biggest chance of pulling off a ’cupset’ when the second division leaders welcome Premier League midtable side Douglas Athletic to the Station Fields. The Moonlighters have won 11 of their 15 games thus far this season and are well placed to challenge for promotion, therefore this will be a good opportunity to gauge their progress against top flight opposition.

Athletic lie seventh in the Premier League, 12 points adrift of the top four but comfortably clear of the relegation zone so the FA Cup takes on greater meaning for the Springfield Road outfit who have now established themselves as a top flight team.

The Pinks will start as favourites, but Colby will be brimming with confidence and may well stun them.

Colby’s nearest challengers in Division Two at present are Ayre United who face the daunting task of taking on Premier League champions St Mary’s in Andreas.

The Saints will undoubtedly be odds-on to book their place in the second round but Ayre have assembled a talented squad littered with Premier League experience, not least the likes of Shaun Kelly, Matty Skillicorn and Johnny Shields who all lifted the FA Cup with Peel last season.

Should the Tangerines have their full-strength squad at their disposal, they may just be able to cause St Mary’s a few problems in the north of the island, but the Premier League juggernauts should progress.

In a similar vein, Foxdale will begin Saturday’s clash with Rushen United as underdogs at Billy Goat Park but also have a squad capable of pushing the Spaniards.

The southerners lost 3-2 against Old Firm rivals Peel last week so will be eager to bounce back and Liam Cowin’s men should triumph, but Foxdale - and Jay Chatwood in particular - are in good form so Rushen will need to guard against complacency.

The final game in this half of the draw is an all-Premier League clash between Ramsey v DHSOB.

The latter will be favourites but the sides played out a 1-1 draw earlier in the season so this one could well go either way at Ballacloan Stadium.
