Corinthians clinched their second Railway Cup with a narrow, hard-fought win over Rushen United in the Boxing Day final.

In front of a healthy 700-plus crowd at the Bowl, the Whites edged past the Spaniards courtesy of Dan Simpson’s solitary second-half strike to lift the Dixcart-sponsored silverware.

But it was far from straightforward for Blane Slattery’s Ballafletcher charges as they were second best for much of the first half and then had to play the majority of the second period with only 10 men after midfielder Ronan McConnell was shown a straight red card shortly after the hour-mark.

Despite their numerical disadvantage, Corinthians were able to protect their lead which Simpson had given them in the 58th-minute and held on to claim the Yuletide silverware.
